Dario Mitidieri

Dario Mitidieri is an Italian photographer based in London, renowned for his powerful and evocative photojournalism. His career, spanning over 30 years, has been dedicated to documenting stories of human resilience, loss, and the complexities of life around the globe. However, his expertise extends beyond photojournalism. Mitidieri is also a highly sought-after photographer for international brands and corporations, crafting compelling visual narratives for advertising campaigns, territorial documentaries, and corporate storytelling. Mitidieri's journey began in 1987 with assignments for publications like The Sunday Telegraph and The Independent. Early in his career, he gained recognition for his courageous coverage of events in Beijing in 1989, further solidifying his commitment to documenting important moments in history. His profound ability to capture the human spirit is evident in his 1994 book, Children of Bombay, a year-long project documenting the lives of street children. Described as one of the decade's most important photographic works, it gave a voice to those on the margins of society and highlighted the power of photography to inspire change.
Mitidieri has covered significant events worldwide, including the Kobe earthquake in Japan, the Northern Ireland conflict, the Iraq War, and the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami in Indonesia. He has also undertaken long-term projects like Children in Wars and Charismatic Evangelism. His latest project, Lost Family Portraits, which poignantly portrays the impact of war on families, has garnered critical acclaim and reached a global audience of 780 million viewers online. Complementing his photojournalistic endeavors, Mitidieri has collaborated with numerous international brands on award-winning advertising campaigns. His ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level translates seamlessly into the commercial sphere, where he brings a unique blend of authenticity and artistry. He is equally adept at capturing the essence of a place or organization, producing compelling documentaries and corporate narratives that resonate with viewers. His exceptional work has been honored with numerous awards, including the W. Eugene Smith Award in Humanistic Photography, the Visa d’Or at Visa pour l’Image, the European Publishers Award for Photography, the Getty Images Grant in Editorial Photography, and two World Press Photo Awards for Mass Graves of Iraq and Lost Family Portraits. Dario Mitidieri is represented by PEP artists for the fine art prints and exhibitions, too.
